Job Responsibilities: About the Job – Your Role As a Facility Energy Technician 3, you’ll take the lead in maintaining and optimizing HVAC-R and energy systems within a correctional facility. You’ll supervise and train adult in custody work crews, perform advanced diagnostics and repairs, and help implement energy-saving solutions that support sustainable operations. Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise, instruct, and evaluate adult in custody workers in HVAC-R maintenance and repair.
- Troubleshoot and repair complex systems including electrical, electronic, pneumatic, and steam controls.
- Monitor and maintain DDC/EMCS systems for energy management and system performance.
- Fabricate and install sheet metal ductwork. Maintain logs for refrigerant usage and temperature control in culinary areas.
- Repair and maintain food service equipment, hot water heaters, and space heaters.
- Perform work in restricted areas where adult in custody labor is not authorized.
- Assist in planning projects, securing permits, and maintaining inventory
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized HVAC/R apprenticeship program or a two-year HVAC/R accredited trade school in heating and air-conditioning or refrigeration AND two years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR Four years of full-time experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position; OR An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- This position requires a Limited Maintenance Electrician (LME) license or above. A copy of the license must be attached to your application.
- Universal Refrigerant Handling certificate OR the ability to obtain the certification within six months of hire.
- Valid Oregon driver’s license
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Extensive knowledge of HVAC-R systems, including installation, diagnostics, and repair of commercial-grade heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment.
- Background in vapor compression and refrigeration, with the ability to troubleshoot and maintain related systems and components.
- Experience with Direct Digital Control (DDC) and Energy Management Control Systems (EMCS), including software-based monitoring and calibration.
- Experience supervising or leading work crews, including assigning tasks, monitoring performance, and enforcing safety protocols in a work environment;
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals, and apply that knowledge to real-world maintenance and repair tasks.
- Strong understanding of electrical and pneumatic control systems, including the ability to perform work within the scope of an electrical license.
- Experience planning and coordinating projects, including estimating materials, maintaining inventory
Compensation: $6,126 - $8,917/month
