Benson is seeking a skilled and passionate Industrial & Engineering Systems teacher for our Electrical, Manufacturing and Engineering CTE Programs. The ideal candidate would have experience from the construction industry, specifically in the electrical field, knowledge of manufacturing processes, CADD drafting and engineering principles.  Possess the desire  to collaborate with colleagues, and the flexibility to teach multiple grade levels 9-12. The successful candidate will provide a rigorous curriculum that aligns with the Oregon Department of Education Career & Technical Education standards for Construction Technology.

 To teach electrical, manufacturing, CADD and engineering  concepts and applications through project-based learning from introductory skills to advanced building projects designed to increase skills and knowledge as students move through BPHS CTE programs that are developed by program teachers. 

A state-approved Career & Technical Education (CTE) Program of Study (POS) is a series of courses that helps students develop the technical skills, academic knowledge and real-world experiences needed to prepare them for the high-skill, high-demand, high-wage careers of the 21st century. Existing CTE Programs include, but are not limited to Construction, Health Sciences, Digital Media, Photography, Manufacturing, Information Technology/Computers, Engineering and Business. 

Include, but are not limited to:

Understand how K-12 learners grow and develop, recognizing variations within and across cognitive, linguistic, social, emotional and physical areas, diversity of cultures and communities; develop, implement and insure systems to effect appropriate, challenging learning environments.
Establish standards, learning objectives and goals for assigned programs; monitor progress and effectiveness of programs; recommend and implement strategies to maximize effectiveness.
Promote a culture of high expectations, providing program support directed at every student receiving high quality and culturally relevant instruction; support and implement the District’s Racial Equity Policy that reflects and supports the racial and ethnic diversity of the student population and community.
Update and maintain accurate and complete records of assigned programs and activities progress and development as required by school, district, state and federal policies, regulations and laws.
Provide relevant, rigorous, technical skill standards-based content
Align courses/content with post-secondary education partners
Assess technical skills
Establish/maintain a program of study Advisory Committee comprised of business, community and education partners
Provide guidance support to assist students in progressing through a CTE program of study
Provide student leadership organization opportunities for further growth and professional development
Integrate work-readiness skills instruction
Develop and maintain business partnerships
Attend required state, regional and district workshops and conferences
Commitment to participating in ongoing professional development to stay current in industry standards and trends

Career & Technical Education Teachers:

Must hold or be eligible to obtain an Oregon State Career and Technical Education (CTE) teaching certificate in the related Program of Study area
Prospective CTE teachers do not have to come in with a teaching license/endorsement
CTE licenses may be obtained provided individuals have direct industry/professional experience (2000 hours of industry experience)
A teaching background is not a requirement
Must have demonstrated experience in the program of study area
Must adhere to Career and Technical Education program standards set by the Oregon Department of Education and Portland Public Schools.

Education & Experience 

2000 hours industry experience within the fields of construction/electrical, manufacturing processes, CAAD drafting and engineering principles
Associates degree in CAAD, engineering, construction technology, manufacturing technology or related field
Hold or willing to obtain CTE endorsements in following areas: construction technology, manufacturing technology, engineering technology

Desire to network with external colleagues to develop programs for students
