Job Responsibilities: Business Need/Purpose of Role: Weir ESCO is hiring a Lab Technician to serve our Portland-based Engineering Teams. We are looking for an energetic, talented, and professional team player who enjoys applying their practical skills to help others solve difficult problems through experimentation. Weir ESCO’s Innovation Center is a workshop and testing lab for concept exploration, product development, and rapid prototyping. The Lab Technician works under the direction of the Technical Supervisor to accomplish tasks related to projects and the work of the Innovation Center. Lab Technicians build fixtures, conduct tests, and collect data. At times they are asked to propose work methods or develop new practices to accomplish experimental goals. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is able to work safely and autonomously on assigned tasks. The lab technician is expected to organize and maintain the tools needed to accomplish their work and to clean their work area daily

Required Skills and Qualifications: Job Knowledge/Education and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma (or equivalent)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude comfortable with computer technology
  • Familiarity with safe operation of metal and wood working hand and machine tools, cutting and welding operations, forklifts and overhead cranes
  • Exposure to the following would be nice to have: Benching and assembling foundry patterns, Operating LabVIEW or other test programs, Programming robotic equipment and CNC machines Familiarity with MS Office programs; Outlook, Word, Excel NX CAD (or other CAD)
  • Welding knowledge
  • Capacity and Aptitude to learn new things
  • Additional Requirements: 80% shop (partial heat) w/ concrete floor 20% office, Positive and Productive Attitude, Must be permanently authorized to work in the United States

Compensation: $25 / hr.
