Job Summary: Our “yard” employees are the most multi-faceted team members on site. The ideal candidate is interested in building materials, is flexible and thrives in a team player environment. Day-to-day priorities can change based on customers and inventory that comes through our door, no day is the same! Tasks range from general lumberyard duties such as processing new inventory, keeping inventory shoppable and assisting with customers to helping the merchandising staff hang a 20’ long sign on the wall! We look for people who are self-starters who are willing to take on any task that is thrown their way and take pride in the finished product. We take pride in our extensive inventory and look to put our best foot forward with every new piece of inventory that hits the floor. All that said, being a small business, we are a tight knit crew and we still like to have fun while we get things done!

Job Responsibilities:
● Sorting, stacking, and organizing reclaimed wood in our lumber yard
● Processing reclaimed wood (de-nailing, trimming)
● Assisting on deconstruction and salvage jobs
● Cleaning and minor restoration of antique and industrial artifacts
● Assisting in building crates and preparing items for shipping
● Helping customers find and purchase reclaimed materials Assisting in store merchandising duties (installing pieces, hanging signs, etc)

 

Required Skills and Qualifications:
● Use of simple hand tools and power tools, such as but not limited to hammers, pry bars, saws, and drills
● Physical capacity to load and unload units of reclaimed wood
● Must be able to read and follow work, and safety procedures, and policies
● Maintain a clean and organized lumber yard, work station, and shop space
● Ability to multi-task between many different projects, both large and small
● Strong oral communication skills
● Basic math skills
● Basic computing skills

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
● Must be able to lift items up to 50 lbs. regularly and repeatedly
● Maneuver effectively around gravel lumber yard and multi-level warehouse
● Must have the ability to work in a non-temperature controlled warehouse
● Standing and working on hard surfaces for long periods of time
● Work conditions that will contain dust and particles from cutting various materials
● Noise levels that may be higher than the normal work environment

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
● Certification as a RMI by the state of Oregon CCB
● Fork lift or other heavy machinery operating experience and certification
● Appreciation for historic preservation and historic architecture
● Work experience in general construction and restoration techniques or sustainable building practices
● Work experience in the salvage, deconstruction or demolition of structures

Compensation: $17-22hr DOE
