Highway Maintenance Specialist

As part of our team, you will make decisions and operate equipment necessary to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges and structures. You will also help with emergency cleanup and traffic control after crashes, storms, spills and more!

Note: This position will be based in Steamboat during the winter season then will be based in Roseburg during the summer. The successful candidate will use a personal vehicle to travel to both maintenance stations. We encourage people from all backgrounds to apply for our positions.

Job Responsibilities:

• Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain and repair various surfaces.
• Apply, maintain and replace roadway or highway striping and legends.
• Perform paving work and other minor surface repairs.
• Assist with weather related emergencies and operate snowplows, deicer trucks and other equipment to clear snow from roadways.
• Clear vegetation using hand tools, motorized brush cutters, brush chippers and mowers.
• Set out traffic control including lane closures, flagging and mobile operations.
• Clean up roadways after crashes and spills which may include hazardous materials.
• Service and repair tools and motorized equipment.
• Exposure to noise, extreme heights, heavy traffic, all weather conditions, high temperatures, heavy equipment and hazardous chemicals is expected.
• Must be able to move around rough terrain, bend and stoop for extended periods and may need to lift up to 60 pounds.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• One year of experience performing basic highway maintenance work. OR Two years of general landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging, and/or construction experience or training.
• Commercial Learner Permit Required: Employee will be required to use a commercial motor vehicle to conduct business. You must possess a current, valid commercial driver learner permit prior to the application deadline. Employee with be required to receive a commercial driver license A (CDL-A) with no air brake restrictions, no 5th wheel restrictions, and no manual transmission restrictions, within 60 days of hire.
• A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position.

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:

• Winter operations experience which includes plowing snow and operating equipment.
• Experience communicating with diverse groups of people.
• Experience responding to emergency situations.
• Experience working with little to no direct supervision and performing high quality work.
• Experience working away from home and working long hours.

Compensation: 3,948-5,483/MONTHLY
