Forklift Operator

Job Summary:
Persons filling this position will assist production staff including Shipping, Receiving, Welders, Fabricators, Shift Leads, and others in preparing product and parts as they are produced. This includes loading and unloading of freight, company deliveries, moving material, basic machine maintenance, and other activities critical in supporting the manufacturing process. The objective of the Forklift Operator role is to assist in any way necessary in assuring that the operation is running as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Job Responsibilities:

• Loading and unloading flatbed trailers and trucks, including but not limited to the receiving of materials from vendors
• Deliver and pick-up materials in company flatbeds
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment and a hazard free workplace, free of obstructions and obstacles
• Handling and working with metal in a variety of capacities
• Working with power tools and equipment common to the steel manufacturing industry
• Building loads to maximize efficiency with consideration to overall dimensions and weight limitations
• Handling and moving of materials both with lift-trucks as well as by hand
• Work in a safe and careful manner practicing good use of personal protective equipment and exemplary safety when handling or transporting materials and working around others
• Actively participate as a member of the Western Utility Telecom Team and aid in the development of processes with Continuous Improvement as an ongoing objective
• Report deficiencies in equipment or safety hazards/concerns

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Operations of material handling equipment such as forklifts, flatbed trucks, pallet jacks, carts, dollies, etc.
• Knowledge of structural steel shapes, sizes, and material grades
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, loading lists, and purchase orders
• Good oral communication skills
• Good written penmanship
• Knowledge of equipment related to structural steel fabrication, their uses and limitations
• General shop safety and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Communicate all critical items to supervisors and coworkers
• Maintain a good working relationship with employees, customers, subcontractors, and vendors when those interactions occur
• Consistently displays the ability to recognize and deal with priorities
• Demonstrated good planning and organizational skills
• Consistently display a sense of urgency for all tasks
• Complete work in a timely fashion and accurately
• Absenteeism and tardiness are less than 2%

Compensation:  $22.00 - $27.00 per hour
